About The Author

Sherry Pollex

Sherry Pollex became a champion for survivors of cancer when she and longtime boyfriend and NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Martin Truex Jr. established the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation. At 35, Sherry was diagnosed with stage three ovarian cancer and doctors estimated that her chance of survival was less than 30% within 5 years. She underwent a radical hysterectomy, debulking surgery and 17 months of chemotherapy. For her 37th birthday, she launched SherryStrong.org to empower women to know their bodies, recognize the symptoms of ovarian cancer and learn how integrative and holistic practices may complement conventional medicine.

Our thoughts and prayers are always with you.
My wife went through the same surgery, 6 months of chemo and a
lot of radiation. The surgery for the ovarian cancer was bad.
She is now, by the Grace of God, in remission and we wish the same for you.

Hi Sherry! I have posted on a different website of yours??? last week as well as sent you an email. Last year when I first heard about you and that you were building an integrative wellness center in Charlotte, I instantly perked up in my seat! I too am a cancer survivor- though it was a stage 2 Hodgkins Lympohma, it turned out to be the fight of my life. I ended up getting 4 months of the standard chemo regimen, 2 months of another chemo that a test by RGCC confirmed would really work, a stem cell transplant that took about 2 months from prep to recovery then 17 days of radiation. All in all,the whole process took about 13 months and was quite grueling at times. It might not have been as bad if my brother had not died from the same exact disease in 1995 at the age of 29!Though his tumor was quite smaller- size of an egg; mine was the size of a grapefruit with 2 “branches” as well. My mother also died of cancer (different type) in 2001. I totally credit my naturopathic doctor for this and assisting me to stay in remission. Could not have done it without integrative medicine!! I am going back to school at the age of 51 to get a degree in Health Education and Promotion and plan to pursue additional nutritional education. I would absolutely love to at least see/volunteer/intern/work at your facility once it’s ready. I am so grateful you are spreading the word about integrative and what I like to call God’s medicine!!

Sherry, Your an amazing lady and an inspiration. You always treat everyone great and are an inspiration to so many. I used to work in service dispatch and wanted everybody to know how great you treat every person, at every level. You and MTJ will always be in our hearts and prayers!

I too am an ovarian cancer survivor that has been battling since 2016. It’s exhausting. God bless you. Praying it all gets better for both of us! It’s SO important for women to know their bodies – that’s my advice.

Keep up the great attitude – it makes all the difference – positivity is the way!

There are so many things I wish I could go back an There are so many things I wish I could go back and do differently on my journey with cancer. Asking more questions. Getting more opinions. Not allowing the fears of others to take over my life and convince me to do treatments or therapies I now know are harmful to the body and immune system. Let me make something clear, I am NOT an advocate for not using conventional medicine in the right setting!!!! I just believe we have the BEST possible outcome when we combine conventional medicine with integrative therapies that support our body!!! It’s OK to ask questions. It’s OK to pave your own way on this journey. Every single human on this earth was born with a unique genetic code, which means every single cancer patient, (even those that share the exact same diagnosis) have a unique and different cancer. What works for one patient may not work for another patient?! The problem with “standard of care” is the same treatment is given to ALL of us in the hopes we will all respond. But we know from statistics, that rarely happens. So PAVE YOUR OWN WAY! Do your research from reputable sources!! Work with a functional medicine doctor if you are able…someone that can help support your body through chemo/surgery/radiation. Screen shot this, go to our website to download it, share it with a patient that you know has recently been diagnosed. I wish I would of had this list of questions when I was diagnosed 🙏💙 Questions from my amazing doc/friend/mentor @drnashawinters! Go follow her. She’s a wealth of information and a 27 YEAR survivor of Stage 4 ovarian cancer!!! #integrativemedicine #askquestions #sherrystrong #ovariancancer #youareastatisticofone
Happy #internationalwomensday to all the bad ass w Happy #internationalwomensday to all the bad ass women out there making a difference in the world everyday 💪♥️ May we be them, may we know them, and may we raise them to be fierce, strong women that will change the world one day! #ovariancancer #sherrystrong #raisestrongwomen
Look at you. Even when life plays no music, you’ Look at you. Even when life plays no music, you’re still dancing. - @jaiyajohn Here’s the thing…life is gonna be hard. We’re all going to go through times of struggle and suffering. But we have two choices when we wake up everyday. We can choose to evolve or repeat? We can choose to wake up and be angry at God or the world for the hand we’ve been dealt. Or we can choose to have a positive mindset and use our struggles for good. Asking God why He put us on this road to begin with? For me, that’s been to hopefully be a beacon of hope and light for others fighting this illness everyday. There’s been so many times I’ve been tired and wanted to hide away and just battle this disease on my own. And then in the quiet hours of the morning, God speaks to me and says, No sweet child. I put you here for a reason. To bring hope, inspiration and light to those that need it. Stand up and be proud of the battles you have fought. Be proud of the person you have become. Because God has a plan and purpose for all of us in this life. It may not be one we would have chosen but we don’t get to decide. We do get to decide how we are going to walk that path everyday. So I choose Joy. Love. Hope. Faith. Positivity. Grace. And every single time I see the sun set, I’ll choose to dance. ♥️ Happy Sunday #bethelight #positivity #ovariancancerawareness
