Our seventh Catwalk just wrapped up and I’m still on cloud nine. I am so overwhelmed by the amount of people and support that came out Wednesday night. It was honestly the most amazing night of my life. And we just happened to raise more than $370,000 for the kids in the midst of the best night of our lives! My heart is so full of joy!!!
Our Catwalk heroes are so amazing, and I am in awe of their resilience and strength every day. When we invite children who are battling or have overcome cancer to join our Catwalk team, we know personalities will be different and, heck, if I get stage fright as an adult, I can’t imagine how they feel! But every year, they blow me away. They have so much fun on the runway and in that moment when they pop out from behind the curtain, they come alive and we get to see them truly enjoy being a kid again!
Every year, I feel my heart exploding with pride and love. Every year, I find myself laughing between the tears and the goose bumps.
Raising more than $370K for childhood and ovarian cancer is AMAZING!!! I have SO many things I want to do to help the hospitals and other survivors, I don’t know where to begin! Being sold out for the third year in a row is the most amazing feeling.
Danica (Patrick) came up to me during the event and said, “You should be proud of yourself, Sherry, what you’ve built here is amazing. I get invited to charity events all over the country and this is the one I look forward to every year. And apparently everyone else does too because the line is around the block!”
I was so humbled and filled with joy when she said that to me. I can’t believe that six years ago we started this little show in a country club with 50 people and that we’ve come this far!
Each year the kids steal my heart. Every child’s smile leaves an impression on my soul. Chloe’s personality and amazing smile. Davis’s dance moves. Ava’s belly laugh and amazing cheeks! BreeLee’s spirit and quiet confidence – she is going to change the world one day. Her poise leaves me speechless.
Sam’s cute little cheeks and positive spirit. Leland’s shy little smile. Beautiful Brynn, so shy but smiled for the first time ever in front of me last night. Sam and his dislike of apple sauce – made us all giggle! And Braylon… what an amazing little boy with some serious dance moves! I am so proud of each of them! WBTV’s beautiful Molly Grantham so graciously emceed the event and went live on Facebook during our video introducing the kids.
Walking the runway with Ava and having her take my wig off was the best part of the night for me. Owning who I am is so important to me, and I felt like last night was the perfect time to show my kids that I’m just like them. I’m proud of who I am and what I’ve been through! I hope it inspires somebody at home to do the same!
Hair doesn’t make us strong. Love makes us strong. And I felt so much love tonight!
I can’t recap the night without pausing to remember the Catwalk heroes we lost this year. It was a tough year for Martin and me. While I stood backstage with all our beautiful, full-of-life kids, I could hear how quiet it was in the audience while everyone watched our video tribute. My heart has broken a thousand times, but tonight I had to remember that as we were honoring them, we were also celebrating the life of the little ones that were surrounding me! We will never forget Jeramiah, Grace, Elijah and Torie. They have forever left an impression on my heart that can’t be taken from me.
Every single day, we’re getting closer to better treatments, better survival rates and hopefully one day, a cure. These kids are our future, and we must fight for them.
The donations cannot stop when our catwalk is broken down and our venue becomes an empty warehouse again. We need your help to keep the momentum going every single day. Please visit MartinTruexJrFoundation.org to donate now!

Sherry., I lost my dad in 1977. I was just 16 years old and I was a daddy’s girl. Back then they used cobalt and chemotherapy. After they did the treatments they did surgery on him and took out part of his jaw bone and cut him down his neck and down his chest. They said they got as far as their eye could see but when they checked him after he healed from the surgery they said he had rows of tumors all in his chest. They gave him 12.months to live and he lived 13 months. His final wish was to die at home so we rented a hospital bed and had hospice come out and start his IV’S and she trained me to take them out when they finished. It’s an awful disease especially for the patients and their families as well. You have inspired so many with your courage, strength, determination and joy. I would love to meet you and Martin one day because I think the world of y’all. Take care and keep inspiring everyone with your story. Much love my friend.
